Pilot: left hvnded love letters
Published 5 months ago • 4 min read
Welcome to left hvnded love letters, your regular dose of me being charming in your inbox.
No spam, one singular email a month because that is honestly all I want to commit to. I appreciate you being here, and I hope you find something you may enjoy through the things I enjoyed. Here's what was occupying my spare time in May.
Things I encountered for the first time in the month of May, even if it was released previously.
Big Hero 6
Baymax
I don't believe in being late to watching movies, but I will admit I had eaten an entire sourdough Baymax at Disneyland over a year ago before I had seen the film. The bread was delicious, and the film was just as satisfying. I now get all the references I've been missing, and will only refer to cats as "hairy babies".
Survival of The Thickest (Seasons 1 and 2)
A charming series I feel I watched right when I needed to. I've been a fan of Michelle Buteau since she did stand up on 2 Dope Queens, and it's very clear a lot of love went into this series. The Afropunk episode had me gasping repeatedly at how accurate it was, and then I realized I recognized the actress Franchesca Ramsey because I met her.... at Afropunk. Here's a Tik Tok I did of the last Afropunk I went to, which was also the first and last time I did a voice over. For my own content, that's not the method for me.
Another Simple Favor
I have to say, I missed the pant suits. 11/10 movie, very camp, I cannot wait for the inevitable and wildly ridiculous third one. Should I get a pant suit?
The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue by VE Schwab
I'd read VE Schwab's explanation of how to build IKEA furniture, she is such a dynamic writer. I listened to this audio book through Libby, the narrator was impeccable and the French accents truly made an already vibrant story come to life. VE Schwab has an incredible way of making an ending satisfying without making it cliché. I've got a few physical copies of her books on my TBR and I have requested her new novel on Libby.
Lethal by Rico Nasty
SON OF A GUN, DON'T RUN WHEN I COME
I've been listening to Rico's 'sugar trap' since she was releasing tracks on SoundCloud, but this album feels like the culmination of both a career and a person truly stepping into her own as a rapper. SON OF A GUN, TEETHSUCKER (YEA3x), and EAT ME! are going to be on repeat this summer, especially the addition of Rico's seething rage sweetening the albums bubbly sugar trap.
Kombucha: The Series
Friends have made jokes that it's "very Californian" of me to "start" brewing kombucha, however I am here to inform you that I am not new to this, I am true to this. I brewed it in New Jersey, I brewed it in Delaware, I'll brew it on the moon, this is who I am. Flavor suggestions welcome.
As a multi-media artist, which I've decided to start calling myself as of right now, I sometimes find a way to create something that will prove challenging but not impossible. I was given the opportunity to display a piece in a small local show as a way to network, and while I have to admit all I engaged in was the refreshments (they had madeleines! I love those), it was a fun way to step outside of my comfort zone.
Bread
Mini focaccia, no knead dutch oven loaves, I could not be stopped. The number of bread recipes that are throw 3 things in a bowl, mix it a little bit, and let it sit for 4 hours and bam, bread, is dangerous to me. Bon Appetit has a great no-knead foccacia recipe that is occasionally behind a paywall - I recommend https://12ft.io/ to let you in.
This Newsletter
I announced this was coming while I was live on Instagram, which I did regularly to check in on my people in other time zones. And here it is! Thanks for being here, and in the live if you were. I remind my loved ones but I also need to remind myself that social media isn't a reflection of what's real or an accurate depiction of everyone's life. This year has been a rough one, but I'm glad to have another opportunity to share things in an effort to connect in this chaotic world.

Here's some random links and tidbits.
Zack Fox was on the podcast My Momma Told Meand he had some incredibly reflective things to share in between the unhinged jokes we always anticipate. This is the first full episode of this podcast I've listened to, I may tune in again later.
F.D Signifier made a lengthy video depicting all the ways Beyoncé is Everything, and well.... he's right.
The youth have forgotten or not even learned who Tiffany "New York" Pollard is. She's the blue print, the OG, and the most iconic reality TV star to ever walk this earth. I will never forget her and neither should you.
I love New York
So, I'd like a way to make this a bit more of a conversation but this clearly is an email so you can't exactly leave a comment. I am @lefthvnded on every platform that matters, my official links are at lefthvnded.com
Thanks for reading! See you in your inbox next month, which will be a recap of June, aka Pride Month. Be Gay, Do Crime.
How to Be Alone People ask me: Lefty, how do you do so much alone? First step - pick a place - it's just you and your phone. The park, coffee shop - you, yourself, and a mug Your arms can hold you too if you're in of need a hug Next step, different place, but it's you and a book No one knows if you're reading, so who cares if they look? This time, don't scroll - let the clock 'tik tok' Next thing you know, you spent hours in your new reading spot Now, pick a movie, no one knows you're by...
"you're kind of punk rock, aren't you?" with a smile on her face i smiled at my boots instead of looking into her eyes my boots have been a major point of contention strangers confident to ask me why i would wear them if - and they point to the blazing sun as if it hasn't darkened my skin to the deepest tone i've ever seen or they look up from a temperature widget on a phone Steve Jobs wouldn't have recognized as a lost generation distant from his first brain children the laces are from...
You gotta touch grass, she said with a smile I said - "yeah girl, it has been a while" I stay in my head, the doom and gloom brews I forget to eat, cry 'bout the news "The revolution will not be televised" was not just about the views He was saying to make changes, you have to start with you. Jackson said it too, to the man in the mirror And now that I'm healing, I see it clearer You can tear down a system, break through the walls But where you go, there you are - and that energy stalls...
